Fascinating , Im from an Indian community in South Africa hat arrived about 100 years ago. I’ve heard murmurs of caste, kinda of identifying which surnames roughly meant you were once privileged. That people married according that and social circles kinda ran along those lines. Perhaps I grew up unconscious as you did. After reading your article I’m curious if these slurs are a problem. South Africa is strong on dealing with hate speech but I’m now curious to see if this is included . Certainly if someone is fair, remains a huge issue. Thanks for prodding me to investigate
